[edit] Canon history
Masada is a being that only exists within Madotsuki’s dreams. What exactly his presence represents is unknown, but there are a few facts he can be certain of: he plays the piano, he lives in a spaceship, and every now and then he crashes it into Mars.
When Madotsuki sleeps and enters the realm of her dreams, sometimes she travels into the underground recesses of her mind to find Masada’s ship, where he plays his piano in solitude. Sometimes she just watches him quietly, or plays along on her flute, or bugs him with some other trick of hers. Sometimes she stabs him. Masada doesn’t like the stabbing so much. And when she falls asleep in his bed and all seems peaceful, the ship suddenly spins out of control and poor Masada goes into a panic. It’s not long before it crashes into the barren terrain of Madotsuki’s imaginary Mars, and Madotsuki departs to explore.
It’s all a very routine matter, of course. Masada never leaves his ship, because that is what the dream dictates. But then the pianist finds himself suddenly off his ship, and on a planet that definitely isn’t Mars, either…
